Scrub-e Handheld Surface Cleaner

Communal areas in student dormitories often need help with poor hygiene and cleanliness. To address this problem, a team consisting of Jun Yang, Alexandra Monroe, Shay Khanchandani, and myself implemented the human-centered design approach to identify users' unmet needs and pain points. Through extensive research, we recognized the need for a reusable and sustainable surface-cleaning device that is also user-friendly.

To begin the design process, we interviewed students to understand their needs and pain points for cleaning communal areas. Market analysis was also performed to identify existing solutions and determine where there was a gap in the market. Based on our findings, we designed the Scrub-e Surface Cleaner to be an electromechanical device that incorporates a rotating nylon brush to effectively remove stains and dirt, with a microfiber towel wrapped around the barrel to pick up loose debris. The nylon brush head and microfiber towel are removable for easy cleaning and replacement.

The Scrub-e Surface Cleaner addresses critical challenges faced by users in communal areas in student dormitories by offering several valuable features, including reusability, ease of use, powerful cleaning capabilities with a rotating nylon brush head, and the ability to pick up loose dirt and debris with a removable microfiber towel. Additionally, the device is sustainable and cost-effective compared to disposable cleaning products.
